Egyptian Mummy Doll..... Atinmerit

It has been way too long since I have updated my blog! Most of you know I went back to school last year, but not many know of my new career! For one of my classes this spring, I had to do an intership. I called so many places and was about to give up when one Doctor's office took a chance on me. I finished up the intership, enjoyed every minute of it, then about a week later..... they called and offered me a job! How awesome! Been going strong there for 4 months. I have one more class to finish up at school and I graduate!

My most current doll is now on Ebay. She is an Egytian Mummy Doll named Atinmerit. Her name means "an Egyptian Queen." She is the bomb digity! Dancing Witch Sisters!

Miss October 31st PFATT Group Challenge

Oooooo I get excited everytime June rolls around. Not just because summer if offically here, but because the Halloween season has officially begun! My most favorite time of the year! Sewing for Halloween juices up all the creative energies and sends me back to my childhood and simplier times. Simplier because there was no need for worry and costumes were simple. I would always rummage through my Dad's closet when it came close to Trick or Treating and put on his clothes and shoes, throw on a spooky, old man mask and away we'd go! Candy time! After my sister and I would collect our loot, we'd dump it onto the living room floor and pick out everything we didn't like. Poor dad, he would get all the leftover's we couldn't stand. What thanks for letting us wear his clothes! LOL

I was happy when the idea came up on the PFATT Group that we were going to have another PFATT Tuesday and the theme was going to be Miss October 31st! Caroline Rathburn has been in my head for a while now and was glad when she could finally emerge!

On her way to the Halloween Ball, Caroline met her fate in an automobile accident. Everyone was devastated and decided to make her the "Queen" of the Ball anyway. She was buried in her gown, along with her crown. Little did everyone know, she is still "Queen" of the afterlife!

Hi Everyone!!

Once again, I am late to the party! Life sure has thrown me some curve balls the past year and a half, but by the grace of God, I do believe we are on the right path. Don't wanna bore you with all the details, just happy the rough times are behind us and we can move forward.

On that note, just wanted to share some good news..... a little late! The premiere issue of the magazine "Prims" is out and my doll and I were selected to be in the pages.

Lennie the Lifeguard is on page 121.

I would like to thank the people who made this possible. The Lord above, Stampington & Co., along with Jennifer Jackson, my family and friends and my forever love of dolling. Could not do what I do without the love and support of my worldwide family either! You all rock!

I finally decided to put Emily up for adoption. She's a very good girl. She doesn't talk back or eat much and she loves dressing up for different holidays. LOL Emily was the pattern model for the March 2010 edition of Soft Dolls & Animals Magazine. She measures 20" tall and is made from aged osnaburg fabric.

I have painted on her face and needle sculpted her nose. Her hair was hand-dyed from a soft, curly mohair. Her dress and jacket are all from companion fabrics with hand-stitching and vintage lace. Emily's headband is removeable, along with her bunny purse.

My dear, sweet PFATT friend, Penny McAllister, is battling acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and the girls in the PFATT House are going to have an auction. Over 30 members have made an ornament to go on the feather tree and all proceeds will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Alabama Chapter. The tree and all its ornies should go up for sale the first couple of weeks of February. Most girls have made ornies in Penny's favorites including the color red and polka dots.

As soon as Penny starts to talk, you are drawn into her southern, Alabama drawl. Her quick wit and stories make you cry and laugh at the same time. Penny's pieces of art are recognized all over the world and bring joy to so many who own them!

Oh My Goodness! I can't believe it's been this long since I updated my blog! I am so sorry! Work has taken me away from everything I love and miss! I am currently working close to full-time in the retail business and this past Christmas season was just crazy! I hope to get back to my passion of sewing and creating very soon.

I hope to have a few auctions to list this evening..... we'll see how that goes! LOL But in the meantime, I have some good news to share! Back in October, I created several pieces for some upcoming magazines. One was for 365 Celebrate! the other for Soft Dolls and one more to be named later.

This is Crystal and she is in the Winter 2009 of 365 Celebrate! Connie Porcher puts together such a wonderful magazine! So much eye candy and lovely pieces for purchase. Thanks Connie for including me in such a great magazine!

Emily is in the covers of the March 2010 issue of Soft Doll Magazine. Another great magazine chalked full of patterns and techniques. This issue should be available by the end of January and includes the pattern for Emily and her bunny purse. Thanks Kelly for letting me and Emily in your magazine!

Winter "Solstice"

Well, I hate to say it, but winter is knocking at our door here in Ohio. The beautiful fall leaves have peaked and they are slowing making their decent downward. The air has turned crisp and cool and believe it or not, we've had a few flakes come down a couple of weeks ago. So, with that said, I thought I better get it in gear and start some winter dollies. Here is my first snowgirl of the season. Her name is Solstice. I love her toile dress with subtle layering of fabrics and just enough bling to make her shine even brighter!

At least I hope it's a happy Monday for you! The only reason I like Monday's is because Dancing with the Stars is on! LOL I admit, I am addicted to it. Unfortunately, I have to work this evening, so my main squeeze is going to record it for me. I don't have anything to list on Ebay this week, but I am working on two new projects. They both will debut next year! Luckily, I will enjoy looking at them for the next 4 months in my workroom. LOL

I was going through some old files on my computer this morning, deleting ones that were no longer important and I found something that made me smile! It was a poem that my daughter wrote in 7th grade and I forgot all about it. I had to share it with you all because I can't believe a then 12 year old wrote this and I'm very proud of my girl!

Fun Filled Weekend!

What a weekend my family and I had! The first leg of our journey took us to Northville, MI to the annual Ghoultide Gathering. I have been wanting to get to this gathering for the past 2 years and finally made it and it was so worth the drive! I will go back each year because the artians and atmosphere is just that good!

I met so many wonderful people and it was so great to be able to put a face with a name. Below is one of the treasures I purchased from my friend Pam Gracia of Soft in the Head. When we got there, it started raining, so I wasn't able to take many pictures. But if you go to Pam's blog, she has some great pics to share with you!

It was just a super fun day! After the show, we traveled north to Bass Pro Shops in Auburn Hills, MI. My hubby was in heaven and soon my daughter was also in heaven when we realized a huge mall was attached to the store. LOL

Four hours later, we were back in our little house ready to start the next day!

Fun Filled Weekend II

One of my most favorite places to shop, was on the second leg of our weekend journey. The Pine Tree Barn in Wooster, OH has a Williamsburg Festival the first weekend of October and this year my family and I were able to go. Williamsburg, VA is my favorite place to visit, so having this so close to home (only an hour away) was such a primsical blessing for me!

There were alot of people dressed in their best Revolutionary garb and

some were just taking a break from all the action!

This one makes me so thankful for my gas stove! LOL

This looks like I caught them in the middle of a heated debate, but looks can be deceiving!

Hello Everyone!

It's been tooooooo long since I updated my blog! The summer went by so fast. Most of you know I took a temp job over the summer. It kept me very busy and wasn't able to do much sewing. Now the temp job has turned into a permanent job! Not as many hours, but enough, and I can start sewing again!

I do have Great News to share with you all! My creation, Sherwood Snowman, is in the pages of the Holiday issue of Create and Decorate Magazine! The issue hit the newsstands yesterday (September 15th)! I want to thank everyone at Create and Decorate for being so wonderful and it was such a pleasure working with everyone!

There was a couple of "oops" in the pattern itself, which
C & D has added to their website. The instructions weren't complete and the pattern for the hat is missing. You can download the instructions on their site or email.

Here are the dimensions for Sherwood's hat pieces:

The brim of the hat is 4" across and the top of the hat is 2.75" across. (Circles) The hatband is 1.25" x 8."

Black and Orange Season begins......

June is the official kick off of the 2009 Halloween/Fall Season or better known as the Black and Orange Parade! LOL I have started this new season off with a sweet gal named Junie. The inspiration for her came when I was watching a movie called The Duchess. The movie was set in the late 1700's in England. The Cape.......

This is a place that is on my "list" of things to see and do. I've been to the ocean many times, but there is a draw to Cape Cod that I can't explain.

Maybe the draw is the amount of history that surrounds the area. Or the quaintness of the villages.

Lobster is something I have never tried but want to. I heard that there is nothing like fresh caught lobster and can't wait to try some!

Have you seen the movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman? It's about two guys who are terminally ill and meet in the hospital. One puts together a list of things he wants to do before he dies. The other finds the list and makes it happen for him. Well, this is one of those things that is on my bucket list,- a ride in a Hot Air Balloon! A couple towns away from me are having their annual Balloon Festival. Starts Friday night with a fly-in from 6-7:30 PM and is held at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds in Coshocton, OH. Since a vacation, to the beach, is out of the question for me this year, I thought I would dream of it through my dolls. I love making my beach themed dollies and this guy screams the water!! He has three things going for him that I hardly ever do.....one, he's a boy; two, he has ears; and three, he has sculpted toes! I named my little man Big Ben, the Barefoot Beach Life Guard. In the Swim of Things!

It's weird how little things will bring back memories of our younger years. Chloe reminds me of my teenage years when my parents packed up my sister and me and we headed to Myrtle Beach, SC. One of my most favorite and relaxing spots. Collecting seashells along the beach and walking in the sand for what seemed like forever. My most favorite part was just the sounds you would hear. The sound of the waves always made you relax and the sun brought warmth to your skin. Aaaaaaahhhhhh happy times!

So, in the spirit of all that, Chloe came to be. She is reminisce of a 1920's style bathing beauty. She has such a serene expression on her face and a wool bathing suit with bunches of hand-stitching. She has a sweet life preserver around her waist and who could resist that pinwheel!?!?

This sweet piece's inspiration was the dress fabric. It's a retro repro print with a Black Cat playing the fiddle, while an Owl dances. I wish I could find more of this retro fabric. It just has a different aura about it that brings back memories of the past. You know, when trick or treat was fun and safe and you could go, by yourself, door to door. When you could ride your bike around your block and not have to worry about anyone nabbing you. I miss those days and wish my daughter could have experienced that, but we are living in an age when I can't even let my girl out in her own backyard without worry. You know those old sayings..... "The Early Bird Catches the Worm"...... Early to Bed, Early to Rise....." well, if it were up to me, I would be sewing Fall all year 'round. I don't know if it's the colors or the the magical feel that is in the air for that time of year, but I love it! Although Greta can be a Halloween Witch, she can also be just a Moon and Stars doll. Depending on your decor, she can be left out all year 'round. She is larger than my last few dollies..... 26" tall and she has that wonderful whispy hair. Hey Everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful day! I want to wish you all many Easter Blessings! I am contemplating going in my garden and picking all my hyacinths and daffodils. We had a beautiful week last week and now they are forecasting snow for us. My spring bulbs look the best they ever have and I want to preserve them for a little longer. If I pick, I will pic! LOL

I finished up three new dollies yesterday. Nothing like cutting it close to the wire. It's not my fault, they were being stubborn and wouldn't let me know what they wanted to be! This one is named Seraphina. She is an Equestrian Doll and has false eyelases and a stick pony.

hehehehehe Ok, we don't look like the Beatles, but we are the best of friends thanks to a little group called PFATT! We have been planning for weeks now and today's the day! My friend Lori (Vintage*Palette) owns a Prim Shoppe called the Village Gift Shoppe and they are having an Open House today. So in honor of the Open House, two other friends and I are getting together to have a gab session and lunch- Joyce Stahl (Enchanted Productions) and Brenda Ostrowski (Little Dollings.) Confessions of a Reality TV Junky

Ok, I admit it..... I'm a junky,-reality TV junky. I'm hooked on American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Ghosthunters....... I'm sure there's more! LOL Remember the days when there was Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days and yes, even Dynasty and Falcon Crest. I'm sure they never dreamt of the kind of programing that's out there today! Pretty mild compared to today's standards. Then there's the daily soaps..... my fav is the Young and the Restless and my daughter is hooked on Guiding Light. I moonlight every now and then and watch Days of our Lives and the Bold and the Beautiful, but you ask..... how in the world do you get any dolls done?!?!?!?! Planning! hahahahaha I usually know what shows I want to watch that day and make sure I have bodies to stuff or hand-stitching to do right in front of the ole boob tube. I guess my least favorite part of doll making is actually stuffing the bodies, so I do it without much thinking about it, in front of the TV. I stain them and let them dry overnight, then I can actually do the fun stuff in the morning,-creating their look and dressing them. Watching them come to life right before my eyes. Now that is the fun part and most rewarding. Seeing plain fabric turned into a work of art. Amazes me everytime! When the doll is finished and it comes out to what I have pictured in my head, I am happy!

Yankee Doodle Party Girl

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a great day! Time is flying by so quickly and spring will finally be here before we know it! I did get a chance to see some bulbs trying to make their way out of the dirt before this last batch of snow and cold came through...... so not too far away, the warmer weather lurks.....

I made two new dollies this past week and have them on Ebay. The first was inspired by all the glitz and glam buzz surrounding the Oscars and also last week was the first week of Mardi Gras, so Brenda, the Masquerade Party girl was born. I also wanted to use the cute little tricorn hat I found on a trip to Colonial Williamsburg a year or so back, and then Joyce was born! I named these dollies after two wonderful friends of mine. They are very dear to me and I wouldn't know what I would do without them! Thanks chicklets for all your support and knowledge!

I'm trying to get back to the workroom and make a Leprechaun dolly, so stay tuned for him!

Excitement in the Air!

Back in September of '08, Doll Crafter and Costuming Magazine asked me if I would like to create a doll for their magazine. Without any hesitation, I said "Yes!" then about peed my pants. They were interested in a Springtime Raggedy Ann Doll, with pattern, to share with their readers in the April of '09 issue. The April issue is ready and should be in the hands of their subscribers now and on newsstands by the end of February. I received an advanced copy and excitement cannot begin to describe on how I feel! Amazed, In Awe, Who Me?, Happy..... I could go on and on here, but I won't! LOL And to be in an issue with Elinor Peace Bailey is just over the moon!

Happy V-Day Everyone! I've been in the kitchen the past few days and not in my workroom too much. One of the things we made today was a Macaroni and Cheese Pizza. My girl said it was good, but I would have to give it some pizzaz! I've got a great recipe for homemade pizza dough. Very easy, especially when you have a big stand mixer with a dough hook! Aaaaaawwwwww the winter thaw has begun! I Hope! At least we finally got a break from the bitter cold winter this year. Almost 50 degrees today with rain on the way. I'm sitting here listening to The Beatles and thinking about, hopefully, hearing the birds churping soon.
Below are my listings for Ebay this Saturday night. I loved making Pam Gracia's frog pattern sew much, I just had to make another. This one is on his way to the pond, in his rented wagon, to go fishing and soak up some sun! LOL You just smile when you look at her! I also had an urge to make a witch this week. I used my same whispy wool for hair, but it was dyed black. She also has some great, long eyelashes.

Thinking Spring.......trying to!

I'm trying so very hard to try and put winter behind me. I know, there is still 2 months to go until spring, but I am hoping that Mr. Groundhog finds a way for an early spring next week. I believe in Ohio we have set an average snowfall record for the state. The old record was in 1978-79. I barely remember it, but I do remember all the neighborhood kids getting together on our street playing ice hockey. We gathered up anything we could use as a stick. My poor mom never did get to use her broom again! LOL But we all had a blast!

Ooooooooo Yummo!!

Most every Saturday, you can find my daughter and me in the kitchen baking. She enjoys making things and I enjoy spending time with her. I also secretly get to teach her math, measuring, following directions, etc. just what every teenager needs to know! LOL

This week we made white chocolate chip cookies and crescent rolls. The crescent rolls are by far her favorite, so we generally make them every week.

Because they are sooooooo yummy, I thought I would share the recipe with you all!

1 pkg. of yeast

1/4 C. Warm Water

Mix until yeast is disolved, then add:

1/2 C. Sugar

2 Eggs

1 C. Warm Water

1/2 C. Oil

1 tsp of Salt

Beat the eggs, then mix all together before adding flour

5 - 6 C. Flour (Add slowly)

Let rise, then knead and divide into 3 parts. Roll out into a circle just like you were rolling out a pie crust. Cut into 8 triangle shapes wedges. Roll up starting at the larger end. Place on greased baking sheet and let rise again. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes. Add butter on top when they come out of the oven. Makes 24 rolls.

Ok, all the chickmen too! LOL Here's my latest baby. Her name is Sandy and she is wearing my signature face. Her bunny ears are removeable and I just love the chick fabric! I love the combo of fabrics too.

It's a beautiful, sunny day here, but cold. The icicles are melting off the roof and torpedoing down to the ground with a huge bang. Freaked me out a little when I first heard it. My thoughts went back to the "Christmas Story" movie when Ralphie's mother is fixing him up after he "shot his eye out" with the Red Ryder BB Gun. Ralphie blamed the black eye on the icicles and his mother said, "Icicles have been known to kill." LOL Just struck me funny. I know..... I have a weird sense of humor.

We got 4 inches of snow yesterday and probably another half inch today. No school for the kids yesterday and they called it off already for Friday. One good thing about the cold, the dog doesn't dally outside when he has to do his business! LOL

Valentine Fun!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

I took advantage of the slow month of sales for December and dedicated myself to creating only Valentine offerings.

This is Tatiana. I have dressed her in toile and gave her a bubble skirt. She also is wearing false eyelashes and whispy, wool hair!

Lizzie is waiting for her Valentine Date! The bodice and bloomers are made from a vintage tablecloth. She also has alot of hand-stitching and I even hand-dyed her curly wool hair!

Olivia is one of my favs! She has a bodice made of an old handkerchief with vintage lace around the collar. I also added a vintage tablerunner for her skirt!

I love this sweet Cherub! Lots of handpainting and Gold Glass Glitter!

And sweet Raggedy Ann! She is a Pin Keep. She has button eyes and a stitched face.

I'm Flipping over this Dolly........

Here's another dolly that has been haunting me for a few years. I have always wanted to create a flip doll that can be used all year round.

Hey everyone! I've had some busy fingers again this past week and love what was created! Poor Santa was a busy fellow and is plum tuckered out, but he forgot someone on his Christmas list and jumped out of bed to make them happy on Christmas morning! My Snow Angel is a beauty all done up in golds and whites. She has some false eyelashes and is placed upon a vintage beehive bobbin.

In the Christmas swing.......

My husband woke me up this morning to tell me it was snowing outside. I guess he is just a big kid at heart and was excited! I just hope I don't find him with his tongue stuck to a metal pole like in A Christmas Story. LOL That is one of my favorite holiday movies!

I've been a good little elf and decided to make a Mrs. for the Santa I sold a couple of weeks ago. Most people think it's the elves that keep Santa fat, but it really is the Mrs. This week she is baking up some sweet gingerbread men wearing her fancy, Glass Glitter Shoes! And then there is Monty Mouse. He is getting ready for Santa to come down his chimney and leave lots of little presents under his tree. I tell ya, the smaller the dolly, the more time you have in them. I was finally glad to call him done! LOL

Here are two new ones I have listed on Ebay Thursday night for a 5 day auction. Isabella is my first snowgirl of the season. I used a new technique for me on her and I love the way it came out. Hard to see on the photos, but it looks like a pottery crazing crackle. I used some sparkle on her too, from the the green glittery ornie to her Silver, German Glass Glitter shoes. Oh, how primsical!
Lyla is a doll I've wanted to make for years now and finally did! I made her rollerskates from wooden spools and carved out the flat where her shoes lay. Pretty kewl, huh? I love the raggedy she is holding too!

A Little Weekend Fun!

I got together with some great friends this past weekend. We went to a Folk Art show in Columbus, Ohio called From Our Hands. What a great show! We met so many great artists and we especially went to meet one of our PFATT sisters, Pam Gracia from Soft in the Head. What a riot we all had. After the show we went to the Easton area for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Yummo! That whole area is just awesome! I worked for a hotel chain and got us a great deal at the Easton Hilton. Just a beautiful place and we all hated to head home. Thank you all for such a fabo time. Can't wait for another road trip!

Is it Winter Yet?

Sure doesn't feel like winter here, but I am in the mood for some winter wonderland. I hope to have some snowmen for you for next week. I have finished up my Santa and his mouse and my Winter Witch dolly. Love the fabrics and colors I chose on these pieces. Hope you love them too! Winterlynn has false eyelashes and german glass glitter eyebrows. Santa has a vintage quilt top coat and hat.
